If you have a paid acct you can use a custom mood theme w/whatever photos you want!

So right now if you make a post & go to the mood field in metadata you'll discover its actually two fields in a trenchcoat -- there's a drop down menu with a whole bunch of preset mood choices which selects a little pastel pixel art and then there's a freeform text field that puts text next to the little icon. The default icons are cute, but if you want to be fancy (and have a paid account) you can replace the icons with other pictures.

the problem with mood themes is that they're, by modern social media standards, absolute nonsense -- DW allows a ludicrous number of distinct moods (it's something like 160?) and while I believe there's a pretty decent fallback system in place (moods are classified in a hierarchical structure so if you don't have an image set for 'aggravated' it moves up a level and grabs the image for 'angry') you still need a pretty serious set of images to make having a theme worthwhile

I use this guardian theme by naye so if you go to pretty much any post on my journal you'll find a guardian still at the bottom of the post

Ooooh i see your moods now!!! It kinda makes me think about how Boba accessories could fill a similar spot, especially if we (optionally?) surfaced the name of the accessory as part of the post header. I've been meaning to try to make some "mood" accessories sets at some point. I can definitely see the classic Japanese angry symbol, as well as some sort of blushing.

Also, you know who has moods? Facebook lmao.

I can definitely see accessories being used in a similar kind of way to how people use icons/moods. I think you’d have to simplify the set quite a bit to be legible on top of a randomly rolled icon but it could be fun

I think generally I can't wait to see how people use them once they can have communities with stable identities.

I feel like one thing I'm interested in exploring from DW is how well the "changing avatar" across different posts/comments works. As someone who never reads (and has difficulty remembering) usernames, it feels hard to follow. I don't know that I can get used to checking the name.

If you’re used to it, it’s very comfortable but yeah I do think it might be one of those things that’s difficult to learn new, after being exposed to the modern web which has stable avatars everywhere

On tumblr someone changing their avatar could totally be a completely different person. I remember having to often go to their blog looking for clues to their previous identity.

It definitely wouldn't work on boba as it is now cause comments don't show name, but I've been considering ways to change that cause some people use those for identity indeed.

SEE, I feel like this but showing the OG avatar bottom right boba-identities-style would work well, but there is entirely too much space from where the name is to where the icon is to my adhd to be able to deal with this.
